Living Truth Discipleship Series

The Awe of God

A Six-Week Journey into the Fear of the Lord

The fear of the Lord is not a life of terror or distance from God. Scripture presents holy awe as a reverent response to who God is— His holiness, majesty, authority, mercy, and love. Over six weeks, this study will explore how awe of God shapes worship, obedience, holiness, intimacy, wisdom, courage, and everyday faithfulness. If you are new to Living Truth Ministry, first explore One Story or begin the Following Jesus discipleship journey as a foundation for continued growth.

Based on The Awe of God by John Bevere.

Week 1

Holy Awe

Discover what Scripture means by the fear of the Lord, why holy fear is different from being afraid of God, and how reverence for His holiness, authority, mercy, and glory transforms worship and daily life.

Week 2

Revealed as We Are

Encounter the holiness of God and consider what happens when His light exposes our true condition. Explore humility, repentance, fear and trembling, and the transforming effect of seeing ourselves honestly before Him.

Week 3

Irresistible Holiness

Examine the fear of man, the call to cleanse ourselves, and the pursuit of holiness. Learn how reverence for God frees us from living for human approval and draws us toward a life that increasingly reflects His character.

Week 4

God's Word

Explore what it means to tremble at God's Word and to respond with willing obedience. Consider why faithful obedience is immediate, complete, and rooted in trust even when the benefit is not obvious.

Week 5

Intimacy with God

Discover the relationship between the fear of the Lord and friendship with God. Examine false views of God, where intimacy begins, and how reverence and closeness belong together rather than competing with one another.

Week 6

The Treasure's Benefits

Bring the study together by examining the fruit Scripture connects with the fear of the Lord—including wisdom, intimacy, confidence, freedom from lesser fears, spiritual maturity, and a life anchored in faithful devotion to God.

The Rhythm of Holy Awe

More Than a Feeling

Biblical awe is meant to shape the way we live. Each week invites you to see God more clearly, take His Word seriously, examine your heart honestly, and respond with worship, humility, obedience, and trust.

Let Awe Shape the Way You Live

The goal of this study is not simply to understand the fear of the Lord as a biblical idea. It is to grow in reverence, worship, wisdom, obedience, holiness, intimacy, and confidence as you walk faithfully with God. Continue exploring Scripture and discipleship resources in the Living Truth Library.

Holy awe begins with seeing God as He truly is and allowing that vision of His holiness, greatness, mercy, and love to reshape the way we worship, obey, and live.
