The Bible Is Not 66 Unrelated Books

The Bible is not sixty-six unrelated books. From Genesis to Revelation, it tells one remarkable story.

When we open the Bible, it can sometimes feel like a collection of separate books, written by different people in different times and places. But from Genesis to Revelation, Scripture tells one unified story—the story of what God is doing in the world through Jesus Christ.

The story begins with creation. God made the heavens and the earth, and everything He made was good. Humanity was created in His image, designed to know Him, live in relationship with Him, and reflect His character in the world.

But humanity chose rebellion instead of trust. Sin entered the world, bringing guilt, suffering, separation, and death. The good creation was now broken, and humanity could not repair what sin had destroyed.

But God did not abandon His creation. From the very beginning, He promised that evil would not have the final word. He would send a Rescuer who would defeat sin, overcome the enemy, and begin restoring what had been broken.

God then called Abraham and formed a people through whom His purposes would unfold. Through Israel, God revealed His character, His law, His covenant promises, and His desire to bless all the nations of the earth.

Yet Israel's story also revealed that humanity needed more than laws, leaders, and sacrifices. Again and again, the Old Testament pointed forward—to a coming King, a suffering Servant, and a promised Savior who would finally accomplish what God had promised.

Then Jesus came. In Him, the promises of God began to reach their fulfillment. He revealed the Father, announced the kingdom of God, and showed that the entire story of Scripture had been moving toward Him.

At the cross, Jesus took upon Himself the judgment our sin deserved. And on the third day, He rose from the dead. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus defeated sin and death and opened the way for forgiveness, reconciliation, and new life with God.

After His resurrection, Jesus sent His followers into the world. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the church was called to make disciples, proclaim the gospel, and bear witness to the risen Christ among every nation.

The Bible's story does not end with a broken world. It ends with renewal. Jesus will return, evil will be finally defeated, and God will make all things new. His people will dwell with Him forever in a restored creation.

And this is where the story becomes personal. God invites us to trust in Jesus Christ, follow Him faithfully, and live as part of His redemptive work in the world. We are not merely readers of the story. In Christ, we are called to take our place within it.
